
Cardiac Screening for School Children at Panchenai
Senior Cardiologist Consultant Dr. K. Arulnithi from Cardiology Unit of Batticaloa Teaching Hospital has initiated a program for cardiac screening for school children. The purpose of the program was to create awareness about heart disease to children at peripheral level and to screen them to identify for any hidden heart conditions as a preventive measure for heart disease.
Dr. K. Arulnithi with the help of Anpuneri Panchenai Village Development Society has organized a pilot clinic at Panchenai on Friday, May 25, 2018. More than 120 students with ages 14 and above have been screened at the Panchenai Mobile Medical Clinic building. Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Rajeevan Francis and Senior Medical Officer Cardiologic Dr. Brintha Komakarajah with a help of two ECG Technicians, nurses and other staff participated in the pilot cardiac screening camp.
The medical team were welcome by the Village Development Society and the team learnt about the various village development projects. They also visited the farm that has been managed by the society to provide livelihood support to women headed families and to provide employment opportunities.
